Prior to the conception of Satellite Era, our relationship with East Coast producer, sound designer, and teacher Futurist had already formed into a meaningful one. Rising in tandem through the niche spaces of early SoundCloud-driven subgenres, both our directions have seen many shifts in their overall intention. We watched closely as his project matured into what he now feels is a genuine representation of his personal aspirations, widely similar to ours.
Reaching this state of confidence as an artist not only takes immense motivation, but also consistent patience and acceptance along the way. With that being said, we are extremely proud to unveil the debut EP of Futurist, a project in development for nearly three years now. “A Mosaic Of Time EP” is a collection of various productions highlighting different eras of inspiration, from his earlier days making experimental bass music, to a newfound obsession with club antics meant to shake dancefloors. Each of the tracks, though individual at their core, feel like a sound collage brought together by his fascination with textures and timbres. His love for building ambiance generally found in film scoring, along with sampling his favorite movies and video games, play a vital role in solidifying its cohesiveness.
Sampling has always been integral to Futurist’s work. This is no different in “A Mosaic Of Time EP” as he sets the mood with its title track, which utilizes his own field recording of a lush forest to welcome the listener to the start of this story. Avid listeners of his older music may feel somewhat surprised initially, as the intro reveals itself to be a thumping house-centric song filled with emotive tones throughout. “Bearer Of The Curse” is an ode to rustic electronica, flexing his modular synth setup by occupying the soundscape with glitchy patches and clever progression. “Push Red” recruits our very own Test Bench as support on this playful techno track, using vocal chops and a rowdy low-end to create a memorable groove. Fans of a younger Futurist will surely be thrilled to hear “Madness” and “The Well,” as both dubstep songs include grueling basslines and head-nodding drums. The EP closes out with “Lapis,” a very special composition written to celebrate all the love and warm nostalgia surrounding his life - a fitting outro to the new beginning of his sonic journey.
“A Mosaic Of Time EP” is a painting meant to portray the growth of a starving artist, without abandoning or undermining their past. Each of Futurist’s established influences over the years are layered upon each other, bleeding over one another to showcase some of his best work yet and an unforgettable debut.
